The Significance of Curating Your Digital Social Circle

changing your focus Jul 22, 2024

Like many Americans, I watched in horror at the attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump. All politics aside, I would have been equally horrified had this been Joe Biden or any other world leader or politician. The fact that someone wanted to alter the fate of our political process by manipulating the results through attempted murder is unconscionable.

What I found even more disturbing were the memes and comments from my social media contacts, who were sorry the shooter missed. Let's think this through...these people hate a man, likely a man they've never met, that they were sad the shooter missed. One of these people who posted such a meme mentioned that he lost eight friends that week because of his post. He actually lost nine friends, because I unfriended him too.

When you are seriously upset that someone you don't know wasn't successfully MURDERED, it's time to examine your belief systems. It's time to start evaluating where that hatred and hardness in your heart came from. It's time to re-evaluate what led you down that road and begin healing those emotional wounds. As much as I'd love to help these people, wishing others were dead is above my pay grade and training as a hypnotist.

Instead, I've quietly removed these people from my "friends" list. I have enough negativity in my life; I don't need these people to add to it. I invite you to do the same. Stop paying attention to people who use negativity and hate to get it. Start blocking and unfriending these people.

Online interactions can profoundly impact our daily lives in the digital age. Cultivating your friend's list and removing negative influences is crucial for several reasons:

Mental Health Preservation

Constant exposure to negativity can lead to stress and anxiety. By pruning your social media connections, you reduce the influx of negative content, thereby safeguarding your mental health.

Positive Environment

Social media should be a place where you feel uplifted and inspired. Curating your friend list ensures that your feed is filled with content that enriches your life rather than detracts from it.

Focus on Meaningful Relationships

Quality trumps quantity when it comes to relationships. Cleaning out your friend list lets you focus on people who add value to your life, fostering more profound and meaningful connections.

Personal Growth

Surrounding yourself with positive individuals can influence your mindset and behavior, encouraging personal growth and a more optimistic outlook.

Time Management

By having fewer, but more positive connections, you spend less time scrolling through negative posts and more time engaging in activities that are beneficial to your personal development.

Setting Boundaries

Setting boundaries for what you find acceptable in your social space is essential. Removing negative people is a way of asserting control over your environment and what you're exposed to.

Inspiring Others

Your actions inspire others to evaluate their own social circles, potentially creating a ripple effect of positivity.

Remember, curating your friends list isn't about exclusion; it's about creating a space that reflects and supports your values and well-being.
